Gallant Roos fall short of grubbers

The reserves kicked off proceedings against the grubbers, and it was an entertaining opening term. Kicking the opening goal of the game, we were very competitive and found ourselves just one straight kick behind at quarter time. Then it was our turn to kick into the wind and it wasn’t as good of a quarter scoreboard wise but the effort was definitely still there and we went into the main break 33 points down. We came out after half time and wanted to erase the deficit and we did that to an extent as we kicked six goals to three in the third term and trailed by just three goals heading into the last change. Although a four goal to two last term diminished any hope that we had of causing any upset and we ran out 34 point losers. A gallant effort from the troops, led by Ty Norman who continues to find his feet in fashion with a BOG performance, while Nathan Baddeley and Ty Norman kicking three majors apiece.

Then it was the senior sides turn to hit the field and cause an upset win against the fifth places grubbers. It was a poor start from the troops and had some similarities to our previous meeting at shell road, as the grubbers kicked four goals to our none, taking a 22 point lead into quarter time. However a rev up at quarter time kicked us into gear as we kicked five goals to three and saw us get ourselves back into the contest, as we trailed by just seven points. We then backed it up with a four goal to one third term and took a 16 point lead into the last change. However kicking against the wind in the last, we were unable to hold on to the lead despite our best efforts and the some bad luck going against us as the opposition kicked seven goals to our two and we eventually went down by 12 points. A disappointing result, but we all know that it takes four quarters to win a game and unfortunately we didn’t do that. Tom and Sam Leeds were the multiple goal scorers for us with three and two respectively.
